Fresh Water Fishing
A wide variety of fish can be found in the beautiful and bountiful rivers and lakes of Portugal.
Specialist Carp fishing is especially popular and enjoyed by many anglers. Fresh water fishing is a growing sport in central Portugal and the waters are excellent for either bank fishing or boat fishing.
The fresh water fishing season currently runs from April to November and is a day time activity only. Night fishing is strictly forbidden between sunset and sunrise.
Fresh Water Fishing Rules and Regulations
A fishing licence is required, licences can be purchased at fishing tackle shops or from a Multibanco (ATM) machine. A licence will cost approximately €10.00 Euros. The licence runs from January the 1st to December the 31st each year.
Only 2 rods are allowed per angler and keep nets must be at least 3 meters long with a diameter of at least 50 cm. Strict dates are to be adhered to when fishing and the closed season must be noted prior to your trip.
Barbel (Barbo) 1st July to 14th March
Black Bass (Achigã) 1st July to 14th March
Bream (Sargo) 1st July to 14th March
Carp (Carpa) 1st July to 14th March
Pike (Lúcio) 1st July to 14th March
Trout (Truta) 1st March to 31st July
Zander 1st July to 14th March
